Hundreds lined up in Chillicothe for a taste of one of the cheapest meals in town.
For $1, you could get a full plate at the Ross County Farm Bureau’s annual Farmers Care Breakfast Wednesday evening, March 14, your Ross County Farm Bureau volunteers came to set up for the next day. Then they started at 5:30 a.m. Thursday morning to make breakfast for the community.
As publicized, opening was at 7 a.m. and by 6 a.m. there was already a line! 7 a.m. came and Sally Bluck opened the doors. Throughout the morning, more than 350 hungry community members, farmers and consumers, came and joined together for pancakes, sausage, ham and fresh fruit. In attendance were some special guests such as Judge Toni Eddy, Congressman Steve Stivers, Senator Bob Peterson and ODA Director David Daniels.
There were several displays set up outside. This included a booth from a new member benefit, Air Evac as well as PNC Bank and Nationwide Children’s Hospital, who was passing out farm safety for kids booklets.
The breakfast went very smooth because there were some really busy volunteers working. Thank you to all of those who came out and to those that helped make it possible.
There were endless compliments on the delicious food. Thank you to those who helped cook the food as well as those who donated food and drinks. Americans are getting a very good value for their dollar. They use about 10 percent of their income on food, and that’s the lowest in any country in the world. Because of this, it is important that our community is aware of how much time and effort our farmers spend making the food we eat every day and how little they actually get from every dollar spent on food.
The agricultural industry is one of the strongest parts of our economy and the reason for this is that we’ve got just a great demand and a great foundation. Agriculture is what this country was founded on. So next time you see a farmer, THANK them for feeding us.
We appreciate the help of Mark Crosier, Terri Cory, Greg Garman, Dwight Beery, Frank Clary, Sally Bluck and Judge Eddy.
The workers’ comp meeting was also a great success. Nationwide Agribusiness Loss Control did the presentation. Many members said that it was the best meeting that they had ever been to. If you have suggestions for next year’s meeting let us know!
