Huron County Farm Bureau President Elaine Conger was one of more than 60 county Farm Bureau presidents who attended the 66th Annual County President’s Trip to Washington, D.C. that was held March 5-7, 2012. During the trip the county presidents visited the Mexico and South Korea Embassies and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Senators Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman addressed the volunteer leaders and discussed the farm bill, federal estate tax, increased trade and the recent passage of Free Trade Agreements with Columbia, Panama and South Korea.
County Farm Bureau Presidents were briefed by several American Farm Bureau staff members on issues including the federal budget, upcoming Farm Bill, estate taxes and regulations by federal agencies. They were also treated to a forum on agriculture issues hosted by Speaker of the House John Boehner and attended by numerous other Ohio representatives.
Farm Bureau presidents also visited with their lawmakers on Capitol Hill and were able to hand-deliver 50-page booklets of comments on proposed youth labor rules collected by Ohio Farm Bureau in Febraury and signed by county presidents.
