Those interested in learning more about how their food is produced should read the latest issue of Our Ohio magazine. This month’s issue features Brenda Hastings of Hastings Dairy located in Burton.
The dairy milks 600 cows three times a day and also grows a variety of crops. “People seem to be curious about farms and food production. In recent years, there has been lots of attention paid to animal agriculture in the form of movies, books, TV news coverage and social media,” said Hastings. “I think it’s great for people to visit a working farm so they can see for themselves and ask the farmer questions.”
Hastings takes pride in being open about what happens on her farm and invites the public to visit so that they can see for themselves and ask questions about how the dairy farm operates. She also keeps lines of communications open through Facebook, Twitter and her blog, The Dairy Mom, where she openly answers consumer questions and explains decisions that are made on the farm. Hastings Dairy provides group tours from April through October.
