The Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation has awarded 11 $1,000 scholarships to Ohio young people for 2012, two of which are from Lorain county. Madeline Bauer of Avon Lake is an inaugural winner of the Cindy Hollingshead Scholarship. The program was established in memory of Ohio Farm Bureau’s 39-year executive secretary who passed away in 2011. Hollingshead was instrumental in the development of Ohio Farm Bureau’s service to its members and a leader in her home community. Bauer graduated from Avon Lake High School and is studying animal science at Berry College in Georgia.
Mara Gordon is a recipient of the Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation Scholar Award, which recognizes students for academic effort, community service and career interests that use agriculture to enhance the partnership between producers and consumers. Gordon is a graduate of Keystone High School and is studying animal sciences at Ohio State University.
In addition to its scholarship programs, the Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation offers Agriculture Action and Awareness Grants to small, community-based service groups throughout Ohio. Families and individuals wishing to establish their own life gifts to enhance scholarships and service programs have the opportunity to become involved in the Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation Bequest Society.
