Those interested in learning about the advantages and challenges involved with beekeeping should read the latest issue of Our Ohio magazine. This month’s issue features Reid’s Apiary and Bee-tique, a business started by Margaret and Bill Reid more than 30 years ago on their 78-acre farm in Willow Wood.
The Reids started out with one hive and now have 25. A large portion of their livelihood comes from selling beekeeping equipment and supplies to hobbyist and apiarists. Readers will learn how to get started in beekeeping, how honey varies between seasons and get instructions for baking and cooking with honey, including sugar substitution instructions.
The article also includes a variety of honey recipes, including Honey Peppered Flat Bread, Honeyed Carrots with Lemon Zest and Thyme, Blue Cheese with Honey and Walnuts, Honey and Garlic Vinaigrette and more.
