Attendees of the Ohio Senate lunch enjoyed Ohio products from dairy to poulty and from lamb to pork.

Ohio Farm Bureau continues engagement in political events

To showcase the diversity of Ohio agriculture, Ohio Farm Bureau helped organize a lunch Jan. 7 for members of the Ohio Senate and their guests as they prepared to kick off a new year at the Statehouse.

“The culture of agriculture is very strong in Ohio and we’d like to share that with you,” said Ohio Farm Bureau Executive Vice President Jack Fisher during the event that featured a variety of foods grown in Ohio.

Ohio Farm Bureau worked with a number of other agricultural organizations in coordinating the gathering.

“This is a way that we’re offering, through them, a tribute to Ohio’s No. 1 industry,” said Senate President Keith Faber of Mercer County who represents one of state’s top producing agricultural regions.

Sen. Bob Peterson (R-Sabina), a former Ohio Farm Bureau president, said he appreciated the agricultural community hosting the opening day for lawmakers.

“For me, it’s a great way for us to start off this General Assembly – over a meal, on a bipartisan basis, celebrating Ohio agriculture.”

Following the lunch several Ohio Farm Bureau staff, including Fisher, represented Ohio agriculture at a reception celebrating the re-election of Bill Batchelder (R-Medina) as speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives.

Also this past week, Ohio’s Rep. Bob Gibbs (R-Ohio 7th) and Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio 11th) were appointed to the U.S. House Agriculture Committee. U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown was also reappointed to the Senate Agriculture Committee.
