Saturday, March 2, Speaker John Boehner is hosting the annual 8th Congressional District Farm Forum at Edison Community College, 1973 Edison Drive, Piqua, OH, 45356 from 9:30 a.m. to approximately 1 p.m. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with coffee, juice, and breakfast sandwiches. Lunch will also be provided for those in attendance.
The keynote speaker will be Ed Schafer, who served as the 29th Secretary of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) under former President George W. Bush from 2008 to 2009. He served as North Dakota’s governor from 1992 to 2000. His top priorities in office were diversifying and expanding North Dakota’s economy, reducing the cost of government and advancing agriculture.
The forum also will bring together experts from different sectors of the agriculture community for a discussion of issues impacting the agriculture industry. The panel this year will focus on growing international trade markets and the impact on the supply and demand for commodities in the United States, as well as developing countries; food security for a growing world population; and biotechnology and its role in agriculture.
