COLUMBUS, Ohio (OFBF) – Editors: The following statement may be attributed to John C. (Jack) Fisher, executive vice president, Ohio Farm Bureau Federation.
“Ohio Farm Bureau supports the revised deer hunting rules presented by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) at the Ohio Wildlife Council’s May 15th meeting.
“While we respect the role the Ohio Wildlife Council plays in developing these rules, it is our hope that members of the council will continue to work with officials at ODNR on the proposal to provide higher bag limits and more hunting opportunities.
“Over the past several weeks Ohio Farm Bureau has reached out to officials at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and members of the legislature to discuss proposed rules regulating deer hunting in Ohio. Farm Bureau provided formal comments to the proposed rules on March 4, 2013.
“Deer cause millions of dollars in crop damage every year in Ohio, and our state is one of the highest risk states for automobile accidents caused by deer collisions. We need hunting regulations that allow us to fight this costly and dangerous situation.”
