Though the Senate deliberated on the Farm Bill for four days this week, time did not allow for the bill to be voted on before the Memorial Day break.
Several amendments have already been considered on topics ranging from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program to the Sugar Program to the Plant Protection Act. Farm Bureau opposed an amendment to reduce the crop insurance premium subsidy for any person with an average Adjusted Gross Income in excess of $750,000 by 15 percent for all policies, however, the amendment passed by a vote of 59-33.
Farm Bureau will continue to work for the protection of crop insurance as a risk management tool in this Farm Bill. The Senate is expected to complete its work on the Farm Bill upon return from break in early June.
