I always thought the farm was a nice place to raise kids. You learn how to work with other people and independently… Living on the farm is a good solid way of living. There’s nobody bossing you around, although the time of year can boss you around quite a bit.
Bill Kibler and his wife Donna farm with their two sons and have two daughters who followed in their mother’s footsteps to become schoolteachers. Bill is a retired rural mail carrier. His farm is located between Akron and Youngstown and consists of corn, soybeans, hay and 20 beef cattle. He has served on his Soil and Water Conservation District Board for Portage County, his Farm Service Agency committee, Federal Land Bank boards, as an Edinburg Township trustee and has been a Farm Bureau member since 1974.
BBQ Ham Sandwich | A recipe from Bill’s mother
1/2 cup vinegar
1/2 cup water
4 tablespoons grape jelly
4 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon mustard
1 bottle chili sauce
1 1/2 to 2 pounds of chipped chopped ham
Mix ingredients together. Simmer 15 minutes. Add ham, simmer for 30 minutes.
