Health care employer mandate delayed one year

Because of the seasonal and transitory nature of the agricultural workforce, farm employers have had difficulty understanding and implementing the mandate. This one-year delay gives the administration time to draft simpler rules for farm employers to know what they have to do to comply with the law.

The individual mandate requiring individuals to have insurance coverage starting in 2014 remains in place, as does the 2014 start-up of health insurance exchanges where individuals are guaranteed to be able to purchase coverage. Those without coverage will be required to pay a penalty. Tax credits and cost-share subsidies are available to help low income individuals purchase insurance through the exchanges.
