Agricultural Best Management Practice Cost Share Meeting Scheduled for July 24th



Agricultural landowners interested in learning about an opportunity to receive financial assistance to install best management practices (BMPs) on their property are encouraged to attend a public meeting on July 24th at 6:00 pm at Lake Metroparks Farmpark (8800 Euclid Chardon Road, Kirtland).


The Great Lakes Basin Program for Soil Erosion and Sediment Control awarded Chagrin River Watershed Partners, Inc. (CRWP) funding to assist landowners in the installation of agricultural BMPs to reduce the impacts of stream erosion and improve water quality. BMPs will target areas adjacent to stream, wetland, and drainage resources. Properties eligible for financial assistance must be located in the Lower Main Branch and East Branch subwatersheds of the Chagrin River. The subwatersheds include portions of Chardon, City of Chardon, Chester, Eastlake, Kirtland, Kirtland Hills, Mentor, Munson, Waite Hill, and Willoughby. Both subwatersheds have problems with streambank erosion and increased sediment in streams that impact the fish and aquatic bugs in these streams.


CRWP will fund a portion of the installation cost of eligible BMPs including: heavy use pads for equine operations; grassed filter strips along streams and wetlands; and fencing to keep equines out of stream and wetland areas and to establish additional heavy use pads. CRWP is partnering with the Lake and Geauga Soil and Water Conservation Districts to provide technical assistance to landowners to facilitate the installation of the BMPs.


This public meeting will provide interested landowners with information about the BMPs and details about cost share assistance eligibility and fund availability. Attendees will receive a tour of similar BMPs that have been installed at Lake Metroparks Farmpark. For more information, please go to
