The Mercer County Fair Board, Farm Bureau, and the Wright State University – Lake Campus Agriculture and Food Science Program hosted a Mercer County Ag Day on April 15 at the Mercer County Fairgrounds and the event was a great success with 25 agricultural related displays, breakfast offer to the public and lunch donated to students, and two excellent guest speakers.
More than 160 attend the breakfast starting the day at 7:30am. Then Greg Peterson discussed agriculture’s importance to society and the role America’s youth play in agriculture. The Peterson Brothers have created various music parodies on You Tube to promote agriculture and create a greater appreciation for the work that members of the agriculture community contribute to our society. These videos help to increase awareness of agriculture to public by providing clever messages through music about agriculture’s roll in American society.
In addition to Greg Peterson, David Marrison, Ohio State Extension Educator from Ashtabula and Geauga Counties, provided an entertaining and educational presentation about “Passing on the Farm.” David discussed for tips and information on how to pass your agricultural land and business onto the next generation.
Not only did Greg present to the public but he also provided a presentation on the agriculture industry to local students. More than 300 FFA, 4-H, and other students interested agriculture attend the event and enjoyed a complimentary lunch provided by Mercer County Cattlemen and Pork Producers.
