Victoria Shaw of Litchfield is the winner of the 2014 Ohio Farm Bureau Federation (OFBF) Discussion Meet. The final round of the competition was held during OFBF’s Young Agricultural Professionals Summer Reach Out event June 28 at Mohican State Park.
The annual contest tests participants’ subject knowledge, problem solving abilities and personal and small group communications skills.
Shaw won $1,000 from Nationwide Insurance and an expense-paid trip to the American Farm Bureau Annual Meeting in San Diego where she will represent Ohio in the national Discussion Meet contest.
Shaw is a Medina County Farm Bureau member where she has participated in Young Agricultural Professionals activities. She is a project manager at the ALICE Training Institute, which teaches strategies to survive a life-threatening event. Her family’s farming activities include raising steers and hogs and growing corn and soybeans. She also is involved in community activities including Day of Caring in Lorain and Habitat for Humanity and is a volunteer softball coach for a Buckeye fastpitch softball team.
The other finalists were Elaine Beekman of Wellington, Christen Clemson of Cortland and Elizabeth Mead of Mechanicsburg.
The Discussion Meet is hosted by OFBF’s Young Agricultural Professionals – singles and married couples ages 18 to 35 who are interested in improving the business of agriculture, learning new ideas and developing leadership skills.
