Downtown Fremont in conjunction with the Sandusky County Farm Bureau, Community Health Services and Knipp Farms held its first (and hopefully annual) event “ Farm to Table, a Local Celebration” on Friday, July 11. Front Street in downtown Fremont was closed off for dinner participants and a table set for 100 stretched down the center past all of the local stores and shops.
Kristie Bilger, Executive Director of Downtown Fremont Inc. put together this project with many volunteers to show support of our local farmers and produce growers. It also served as a key fundraiser for Downtown Fremont Inc.
Guests dined on appetizers made up of kale and zucchini chips, Thai spiced pork sliders with pickled beet slaw in vinaigrette, fruit and cheese crostini, fennel salad and broccoli pecorino tarts. The first course consisted of a chilled cucumber dill soup, the second course was salad and bread, Israeli couscous with toasted spice vinaigrette and assorted breads. The meals’ third course was balsamic beef tips with cauliflower mashed potatoes and prosciutto wrapped chicken with herb infused shallot sauce. Assorted fruit pies and cheesecake with berry sauce topped off the dinner.
Attendees were also treated to dinner music which was provided by a local acoustic duo, Gabriel and Grove.
The positive response to this project coupled with a full table and beautiful weather made for a fun evening. Thanks to those of you that attended – we hope you had an enjoyable time!
