Children’s Literature Award Winning Book ‘The Beeman’

The Beeman: The book full of essential facts about bees, beekeeping and – of course! HONEY.  there is even a delicious apple and honey muffin recipi to make.  The Beeman book has been named the recipient of the 2014 Ohio Farm Bureau Award for Children’s Literature. This brightly illustrated book is written for ages 5-8 reading level and grades K-2nd. Author Laurie Krebs and Valeria Cis answer “bee” and “honey” questions in this simple rhyming story-a playful introduction to the fascinating way that bees live and work.  

“Our members have always put a high value on identifying great children’s literature that will interest young people in agriculture,” said Pat Petzel, OFBF’s vice president of communications. “This year’s winner is fun and educational for the kids and we’re proud to recognize ‘The Beeman’ as a wonderful book.”

An educator’s guide is also available to accompany this book. The teacher’s resources were produced by the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture.The book and/or educator’s guide can be ordered from county Farm Bureau offices or by visiting and clicking on “Resource Orders,” “Educational Materials,” then “Books of the Year.”

When ordering books online, editions identified as the Ohio winner can be requested.Each year Ohio Farm Bureau honors a book and author whose work embodies an agricultural theme and contributes to American literature. “The Beeman” was named book of the year by the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture.
