OFBF works to strengthen propane proposals

Buckeye Farm News

Congressman Bob Latta, R-Bowling Green, introduced the Propane Supply and Security Act, which is a companion to legislation sponsored by Sens. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, Al Franken, D-Minnesota, and Tammy Baldwin, D-Wisconsin.

The bills seek to determine the cause of previous propane shortages and find ways to prevent future ones. Proposed solutions in the bill include enhanced tracking of supplies to better forecast shortages, increased coordination of response efforts and expansion of the list of equipment covered under the U.S. Department of Agriculture storage facility loan program to include propane tanks. OFBF worked to strengthen language for rural residents who rely on an adequate supply of propane to heat not only their homes but their livestock barns.

It is hoped that with bipartisan support, these bills will be taken up for consideration after the election and before another harsh Ohio winter.
