2015 agriculture scholarship programs

United Producers Inc., OABA Educational TrustNational Dairy Promotion and Research Board and several county Farm Bureaus have announced their scholarship offerings for 2015. All scholarship programs assist students in pursuing their education in agricultural-related areas of study and aim to help promote agriculture and agribusiness as a growing field of career opportunities.

United Producers Scholarship Program

United Producers, Inc. (UPI) is excited to support the future generation of agriculture through its scholarship program. UPI is offering two $1,000 scholarships in each of its 16 districts to deserving high school and post high school students pursuing agriculture degrees.

Applicants must be a Preferred Member of UPI or a child or grandchild of a Preferred Member, and a 2015 graduating high school senior, or a student currently attending a college or technical school studying an agriculture-related field. Completed applications and essays must be postmarked by April 1.

OABA Educational Trust

Ohio Agribusiness Association provides scholarships to students in agribusiness through its Educational Trust and the Greenleaf Agri-Industry Award. Members of the industry were concerned with the noticeable lack of quality people seeking career opportunities in agribusiness. Many were being lured away because of available scholarship assistance in closely related fields. The leaders of OABA felt it needed to aggressively compete for the talents of people by creating a sound and durable scholarship program. Presently, scholarships range from $1,000 to $4,000 for a given academic year. Scholarships are awarded for a one year period.

National Dairy Promotion and Research Board Scholarship

Applications are being accepted for college scholarships that are awarded by America’s dairy farmers and dairy importers through the National Dairy Promotion and Research Board (NDB). Nineteen scholarships worth up to $1,500 each will be awarded. In addition, the NDB awards a $2,500 James H. Loper Jr. Scholarship to the outstanding scholarship recipient.

Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, an interest in a career in a dairy-related discipline, and demonstrated leadership, initiative and integrity. Candidates are expected to complete an application form, submit an official transcript of all college courses, and write a short statement describing their career aspirations, dairy-related activities and work experiences. The application deadline for the 2015-2016 school year is April 17.
