Young Ag Professionals Washington, D.C. Leadership Experience

The YAP Washington, D.C. Leadership Experience exposes Young Agricultural Professionals, ages 18-35 with leadership potential, to the national political scene and motivates them to become more involved in the legislative arena and Farm Bureau.

The program includes learning how to lobby and engage politicians and get your point across, and then putting what you learn into action in meetings with elected officials.

Other activities during the program include a briefing on Ohio and national farm issues by Ohio and American Farm Bureau staff and a session to teach the leaders about the inner-workings of government. Several tours that are  a part of the trip include a tour and briefing at the American Farm Bureau office, Capitol building, an embassy and national monuments.

County Farm Bureaus nominate one Young Ag Professional to attend. Not every county sends someone each year; there is a four-year rotation, based on Ohio Farm Bureau trustee districts. One member from each of the 22 trustee districts and one from each of the four regions are selected to travel each year.

Those interested in the program should contact their county Farm Bureau office.

The trip is held in conjunction with the AgriPOWER Institute D.C. trip.
