The Pike County Farm Bureau held its 2nd annual Farm“er”taining Ag Tours on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016. The first stop on the tour was a 2600 Corn and Soybean farm owned and operated by Porter and Peggy Shepherd, who farm in three counties over about a 30 mile radius! Show goats are also raised on this farm.
The second stop on the Ag Tour was The Way’s Farm operated by Cameron and Mandy Way. What started out as a hobby has become quite the business! They grow sweet corn, asparagus, cucumbers, and high tunnel greenhouse tomatoes just to mention a few! This 40-acre farm also features a pick your own pumpkin patch and bee hives where honey is produced. They have four farmers markets they sell at in three neighboring counties as well as Christmas trees in December! This is a great family operation.
The final destination of the day was the Pike County Fairgrounds where the Annual Meeting was held. Trustee elections and public policies were voted on. Great dinner & entertainment by SOB – Seth Overly Band, wrapped up a great day of fun, food and agriculture!
