Every Tuesday an Ohio Farm Bureau member takes over the Ohio Farm Bureau Instagram for the day to share a day in their life. Check in throughout the day or follow us on Instagram, @OhioFarmBureau, to meet new Ohio farmers and ag professionals every #TakeOverTuesday.

Today’s editor is Mary Buehler, 2016-2017 Ohio FFA president.

Hi I’m Mary Buehler, the 2016-2017 Ohio FFA President. My teammates and I just wrapped up our year of service to the nearly 26,000 Ohio FFA members at the 89th Ohio FFA Convention! — #TakeOverTuesday this week is with Mary Buehler, 2016-2017 Ohio FFA President. A large part of the responsibility of an FFA state officer is to conduct chapter visits at various FFA chapters across the state. Here you see some students learning some safety about mouse traps which they then moved blindfolded under the direction of their teammates. This challenge helps to clarify the importance of trust while working on a team. — #TakeOverTuesday this week is with Mary Buehler, 2016-2017 Ohio FFA President. In the spirit of National Ag. Day, my teammate Ryan A. Matthews (newly elected State President) and I went to Washington D.C. in March to advocate for the agricultural industry, career technical education, and agricultural education. In cooperation with Ohio Farm Bureau, Ohio FFA members are taught about the process of lobbying at the Ohio Legislative Leadership Day in September. — #TakeOverTuesday this week is with Mary Buehler, 2016-2017 Ohio FFA President. My teammates and I adopted the phrase “Love all, serve all.” as our guiding inspiration for our year of service. We strived to showcase to members that the opportunities in FFA develop individuals on a personal and professional level. — #TakeOverTuesday this week is with Mary Buehler, 2016-2017 Ohio FFA President. Labor has always been an issue, mainly because we are a seasonal operation. So that's a challenge finding somebody who only wants to work three months out of a year, sometimes up to six months.

I appreciate the benefit of having a strong voice in my corner. The extras that are included in membership are wonderful, but I'm a member because of the positive impact to my local and state agricultural communities.

Strong communities
I see the value and need to be engaged in the community I live in, to be a part of the decision-making process and to volunteer with organizations that help make our community better.

Leadership development
Farm Bureau involvement has taught me how to grow my professional and leadership experience outside of the workforce and how to do that in a community-centric way.

With not growing up on a farm, I’d say I was a late bloomer to agriculture. I feel so fortunate that I found the agriculture industry. There are so many opportunities for growth.

Growing our Generation
Knowing that horticulture is under the agriculture umbrella and having Farm Bureau supporting horticulture like it does the rest of ag is very important.

If it wasn't for Farm Bureau, I personally, along with many others, would not have had the opportunity to meet with our representatives face to face in Washington.

So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
