#TakeOverTuesday: Dayton Nurseries, Summit County

Every Tuesday an Ohio Farm Bureau member takes over the Ohio Farm Bureau Instagram for the day to share a day in their life. Check in throughout the day or follow us on Instagram, @OhioFarmBureau, to meet new Ohio farmers and ag professionals every #TakeOverTuesday.

Hello, this is Tom Dayton, owner of Dayton Nurseries in Norton, Ohio with your #TakeOverTuesday. I am also vice president of the Summit County Farm Bureau. Stay tuned for posts regarding what is going on at the nursery as well as the ways we continue to make the nursery “green”. #recycling #solarpanels #irrigation — #TakeOverTuesday this week is with Tom Dayton of Dayton Nurseries in Summit County. To reduce the carbon footprint of the nursery and move closer to the ultimate goal of true #sustainability, we have installed two sets of #solarpanels from #yellowlitesolar on the main store building and barn. The clean #alternativeenergy fits with our program begun in 1999 of good environmental stewardship concerning the reduced use of pesticides, herbicides and water recycling. — #TakeOverTuesday this week is with Tom Dayton of Dayton Nurseries in Summit County. At the nursery, we’re big into saving and #recycling #water. Our whole system is like one big #raingarden in which used #irrigation water is returned to a one-acre holding pond. Rainwater that runs off the sales area, paved parking lot and building roofs is collected and stored. — #TakeOverTuesday this week is with Tom Dayton of Dayton Nurseries in Summit County. You may think #native plants are overgrown, messy and not attractive but that is not the case! Natives actually come in a wide array of textures and colors to create showy displays. Why plant natives? They’re good for #wildlife, #birds, #butterflies, and they save #water because they are best suited for our climate. There is no need for fertilizers and they control erosion and filter rainwater. Here at #daytonnursery we regularly encourage staff and clients to choose natives in their landscapes. Thanks for hanging out with us today and we hope to see you soon! — #TakeOverTuesday this week is with Tom Dayton of Dayton Nurseries in Summit County.
