Meet one of the 2017 Montgomery County Farm Bureau Scholarship winners
Joel is the son of Amanda and Daniel Baker, and resides in Dayton, Ohio. He will be attending Calvin College to pursue a degree in chemical engineering and chemistry, while also majoring in theology. He hopes to eventually become a lead engineer. Joel’s involvement within many organizations has instilled in him a great ambition for the future.
He was an active student in high school. He participated in the Key Kiwanis Club, National Honor Society, the Debate Club, and was a Science Olympiad Coach. In addition to Joel’s school activities, he also received scholastic honors. He was a valedictorian of his high school, was a service director for the National Honor Society, received the “Service Above Self” award, and won the 20th anniversary Dayton Peace Accords Logo Contest.
Joel has dedicated most of his time to community volunteering and leading others. Most of his community involvement was through his church, but he also volunteers at places, such as Goodwill stores, the local food bank, and K-12 Galleries. Despite all of Joel’s leadership and community activities, he still manages to find time to hold a job and intern at his church throughout the summer. He is an immensely accomplished student.
Congratulations, Joel! We are proud to support your educational endeavors. We wish you the best in the future!
