Holmes County Farm Bureau is creating a new way to connect with FFA members and bridge the gap between FFA and future opportunities in agriculture.

The Youth Ambassador program is open to any student who will be a senior in high school in fall 2018 and involved in FFA. The selected ambassador(s) will be appointed to a non-voting seat on the Holmes County Farm Bureau board of trustees. From that seat, the students will have an opportunity to engage with the board members and learn what Farm Bureau is about from a first-hand view.

The ambassador(s) will be asked to help plan a careers in ag day to be held in the fall of 2018, present to their FFA chapter about Farm Bureau and their experiences, present their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) to the Farm Bureau board to help them understand the FFA program better as well, and other activities and events as their schedule and interests allow, such as Ag Day at the Capital.

At the conclusion of the one year board seat, the ambassador(s) will be presented with a $500 scholarship as well as a one year membership in the Ohio Farm Bureau upon their 18th birthday.

Applications for the Youth Ambassador program are available upon request by emailing [email protected] or calling 330-263-7456 and are due by April 30, 2018. Complete program information is available here: ya-program-flyer

Labor has always been an issue, mainly because we are a seasonal operation. So that's a challenge finding somebody who only wants to work three months out of a year, sometimes up to six months.

I appreciate the benefit of having a strong voice in my corner. The extras that are included in membership are wonderful, but I'm a member because of the positive impact to my local and state agricultural communities.

Strong communities
I see the value and need to be engaged in the community I live in, to be a part of the decision-making process and to volunteer with organizations that help make our community better.

Leadership development
Farm Bureau involvement has taught me how to grow my professional and leadership experience outside of the workforce and how to do that in a community-centric way.

With not growing up on a farm, I’d say I was a late bloomer to agriculture. I feel so fortunate that I found the agriculture industry. There are so many opportunities for growth.

Growing our Generation
Knowing that horticulture is under the agriculture umbrella and having Farm Bureau supporting horticulture like it does the rest of ag is very important.

If it wasn't for Farm Bureau, I personally, along with many others, would not have had the opportunity to meet with our representatives face to face in Washington.

So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
