Our monthly spotlight blog features Hardin County Farm Bureau’s board trustee, Derek Snider, who is originally from Kenton. Derek graduated from Kenton High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University. Derek is involved with Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance Board of Directors.
Meet Derek Snider
What and where do you farm (or work for an agribusiness)?
With the family on a grain and livestock operation. Also, I work in the accounting office with AgCredit.
How long have you been a farmer?
I am a lifelong farmer with four official years.
Why did you decide to be a farmer (or work in agribusiness)?
It is a family tradition.
What do you love about farming?
I like to watch what is sown grow to harvest.
Why do you think it’s important to know where your food comes from?
So there is a consumer connection to farmer and people can trust their food.
What is the biggest challenge facing agriculture?
Profitability in the lower commodity market.
Why are you a Farm Bureau member? What do you see as the biggest benefit?
So I can share my story as a young active farmer.
