Hello everyone, I’m Korie Slemmons! A mom, wife, farmer, and business owner from Logan County, Ohio! I’m looking forward to sharing a bit of what we do! Our operation is a three-prong fork! Along with having a commercial grain farm in Logan County, we operate Slemmons Excavating LLC, a full service farm drainage business. Also, my husband and I, along with another couple are partners in a farming operation in Southeastern Mississippi. This is our second year growing a crop in Mississippi and our first year growing cotton. As a CCA (Certified Crop Adviser), I have enjoyed learning something new and sharing this experience with my family! . . .

Slemmnons Excavating LLC specializes in all things farm drainage. Our team of 10 employees have been busy this summer installing larger mains, waterways, and of course plowing tile after wheat came off. This 24-inch diameter main is being installed in Union County with an Ohio made Liebrecht trench box. . . .

The final step in constructing a grassed waterway is to install a straw erosion control blanket down the center of the freshly seeded waterway. This is an activity that builds comradery, lots of talking and racing to see who can put pins down the blanket the quickest! . . .

We take things season by season! As plowing tile sometimes slows down during summer months, we occasionally take on commercial construction work. In this case, we had directional drilling utilities in a Cincinnati suburb. . . .

Part of summer is getting equipment ready for harvest! Our little gal got in on the action. I think this kept her busy for 30 minutes while I got payroll done! This truck used to be our heavy equipment hauler but will now spend the rest of its life serving the farm! Between the drainage business and farm we have 37 trucks and trailers that require registration and tags. All things regulatory fall under my job duties! . . .

My spot most hours of the working day! I do get in on the action during planting and harvest and log some cab time but the work on this desk piles up! I also do a little TSP (Technical Service Provider) work for the NRCS (Natural Resources Conservation Service. I am currently working on a CNMP (Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plan) for a local dairy farm! . . .

We started harvest this past weekend! Things get busy and the road is bumpy, so you just got to hang on to your car supper with both hands! Thanks so much for hanging out with us today! It has been fun showing you a glimpse of what we get to do and love! . . .

Labor has always been an issue, mainly because we are a seasonal operation. So that's a challenge finding somebody who only wants to work three months out of a year, sometimes up to six months.

I appreciate the benefit of having a strong voice in my corner. The extras that are included in membership are wonderful, but I'm a member because of the positive impact to my local and state agricultural communities.

Strong communities
I see the value and need to be engaged in the community I live in, to be a part of the decision-making process and to volunteer with organizations that help make our community better.

Leadership development
Farm Bureau involvement has taught me how to grow my professional and leadership experience outside of the workforce and how to do that in a community-centric way.

With not growing up on a farm, I’d say I was a late bloomer to agriculture. I feel so fortunate that I found the agriculture industry. There are so many opportunities for growth.

Growing our Generation
Knowing that horticulture is under the agriculture umbrella and having Farm Bureau supporting horticulture like it does the rest of ag is very important.

If it wasn't for Farm Bureau, I personally, along with many others, would not have had the opportunity to meet with our representatives face to face in Washington.

So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
