We would like to take the time on Tuesdays to introduce you to our trustees! While our trustees are busy with their jobs and families, they still manage to find time to do great work for Farm Bureau and we appreciate all that they continue to do for their respective county! We value these members and their many hours contributed to making Farm Bureau great!
This week we would like to introduce you to Tom Bensman.
Where did you grow up?
- Shelby County, OH
How long have you been a Farm Bureau member?
- 35 years
How long have you been a trustee?
- 3 years
What is your agriculture background?
- I grew up on a diversified farm (cattle, hay, row crops). After getting married, we lived on a small farm near Spring Valley. Eleven years ago our kids got involved in 4-H (hogs, feeder calves, steers, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks and turkeys). I started selling freezer meat (beef and pork) from animals that we raised on the farm. We also produce a small portion of our own hay.
What is your current job title?
- During the day I am a computer contractor. The cattle take up most of the remaining working hours. Not sure if I really have a title in either.
What activities have you participated in with Farm Bureau?
- Ohio Farm Bureau Trends and Issues Conference, Farmers Share Breakfast, Ford Drive Event, Committees (membership, T-shirt, young farmers grant), milk booth, and currently board president so various responsibilities related to that.
What is one interesting fact about yourself?
- I can recite the states in alphabetical order thanks to a song I learned in the 6th grade. At least my daughter thinks that is one of the most interesting things about me.
