President Rusty Winland conducted the Belmont County Farm Bureau 2019 Annual Meeting of members on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at The Market at Ebbert Farms, in St. Clairsville. At this meeting, the members voted on proposed policies and selected trustees for the Board of Trustees as well as delegates to the Ohio Farm Bureau 2020 Annual Meeting. Speaker for the event was Joe Cornely, senior director of corporate communications at Ohio Farm Bureau.
Policy issues included oil and gas issues, wildlife issues, trespassing laws, animal welfare, invasive weeds and commodity pricing.
Again this year was the inclusion of several area sponsors with displays which the approximate 200 Farm Bureau members and guests were able to view prior to the meeting. Belmont Soil and Water Conservation District and Captina Creek Watershed provided educational information along with the Gold Sponsors: WVU Medicine Barnesville Hospital, Ag Pro, and Kirke’s Homemade Ice Cream. The Silver Sponsors included Belmont Mills, Belmont/Carson Petroleum, Milleson Insurance, and Riesbeck’s Food Markets. The Bronze Sponsor was Pines Edge Farms.
Senior Organization Director Betsy Anderson stated, “Farm Bureau depends on volunteers to accomplish our goals and policies. Belmont County is very blessed with dedicated people to serve on their board of trustees and as membership marketers.” Recognition was also given for the county American Farm Bureau award received for the Veterans Salute dinner held and the recent highly successful back pack food donation event.
Doan Ford provided an F-150 that attendees filled with non-perishable food items that were then distributed to local food pantries by the Belmont County Farm Bureau Board of Trustees.
