Noble County OSU Extension

Noble County Farm Bureau would like to share the Noble County Extension information with members:

Dear Noble ANR Newsletter Subscribers,

Since the progression of the COVID-19 pandemic led to the closure of our physical office in March, nearly all of employees of The Ohio State University have been exclusively teleworking. But, things have changed at the end of June!

The Ohio State University Extension Office of Noble County is reopen to the public on a limited basis. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. we will be open by appointment ONLY until further notice. The office will be closed for lunch each day from Noon to 1 p.m.

Staff members will rotate days in the office to assist clientele. We are still primarily teleworking, so it is best to call ahead if you plan to meet with a specific person. If you need to pick things up or have something to drop off, you can also call in advance and we can make arrangements to meet you outside the building, if preferred. There is also a secure drop-box located outside our main entrance to drop off items when the office is not physically open. Per OSU guidelines, we can only have one client at a time in the office and guests will be required to wear a mask. If you have any symptoms of illness or have been in contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19, please refrain from coming to the office at this time.

My day in the office to meet agriculture and natural resources needs will be Tuesdays beginning June 23 and will be on a one day per week basis for the foreseeable future. Field scouting, crop sampling and other services are also available by request, but must be scheduled ahead of time to abide by the University’s safety protocol.

All in-person events are still canceled through July 6, 2020. We will keep you informed as we know more about events after July 6. The safety of our community is OSU’s top priority. We look forward to meeting in-person with you at programs in the future. Please continue to reach out if OSU Extension can be of service to you.

Sincerely,

Christine Gelley, M.S. Extension Educator, Agriculture & Natural Resources Noble County Extension

Labor has always been an issue, mainly because we are a seasonal operation. So that's a challenge finding somebody who only wants to work three months out of a year, sometimes up to six months.

Farm Labor Resources
I appreciate the benefit of having a strong voice in my corner. The extras that are included in membership are wonderful, but I'm a member because of the positive impact to my local and state agricultural communities.

Strong communities
I see the value and need to be engaged in the community I live in, to be a part of the decision-making process and to volunteer with organizations that help make our community better.

Leadership development
Farm Bureau involvement has taught me how to grow my professional and leadership experience outside of the workforce and how to do that in a community-centric way.

Young Ag Professionals program
With not growing up on a farm, I’d say I was a late bloomer to agriculture. I feel so fortunate that I found the agriculture industry. There are so many opportunities for growth.

Growing our Generation
Knowing that horticulture is under the agriculture umbrella and having Farm Bureau supporting horticulture like it does the rest of ag is very important.

If it wasn't for Farm Bureau, I personally, along with many others, would not have had the opportunity to meet with our representatives face to face in Washington.

Washington, D.C. Leadership Experience
So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
