While 2020 has certainly been less than normal, the Coshocton County Farm Bureau remained hard at work. Now that 2020 is coming to an end, Farm Bureau is looking forward to the excitement of 2021 and bringing back some of the programs we were forced to cancel in 2020. Here is a recap of 2020:

Breakfast on the Farm

The first event of 2020 was the annual Breakfast on the Farm, held at Lapp Farms. This event serves multiple purposes as we partner with Jeff Drennen Ford and Fill-A-Ford with donations for New Life Ministries, serve breakfast through the air with Chris Cakes and present the annual worker’s compensation safety program for our members enrolled in that program. If you haven’t been to this event yet, mark your calendars for March 6, 2021 and plan to join us!

ATV Tour

We were so excited to bring a new event this year- the ATV Tour! We had over 50 ATV and UTVs travel among Endsley Farm, Fender’s Fish Hatchery, Daugherty’s Dairy and Coshocton Hops to learn more about local agriculture. Following the tours, a catered dinner was served by Schumaker Farms. We can’t wait to bring you this year’s tour. Stay tuned for more information and be ready to tackle a different part of the county! A special thank you to the Coshocton County Sheriff for allowing an officer to block traffic while we crossed state routes and high traffic intersections.

Scholarship winners

Congratulations to our five scholarship winners! Farm Bureau is honored to support the higher education of Hayden Shook, Kristina Scheurman, Hayden McCoy, Logan Smith and Elizabeth Porteus

Young Agricultural Professionals

We are still looking to grow our Young Ag Professionals group in Coshocton County. We meet annually at the Wooly Pig Farm Brewery for pizza and drinks in the spring. Young Ag Professionals are 18-35 years old, single or married, and interested in agriculture. If you have ideas of programs you would like to see the YAP group accomplish, let us know!

Coming back in 2021

We are looking forward to bringing back Dinner on the Farm, 4th Grade Ag Day and Little Farmer Zone. Check back for more information!

Labor has always been an issue, mainly because we are a seasonal operation. So that's a challenge finding somebody who only wants to work three months out of a year, sometimes up to six months.

Farm Labor Resources
I appreciate the benefit of having a strong voice in my corner. The extras that are included in membership are wonderful, but I'm a member because of the positive impact to my local and state agricultural communities.

Strong communities
I see the value and need to be engaged in the community I live in, to be a part of the decision-making process and to volunteer with organizations that help make our community better.

Leadership development
Farm Bureau involvement has taught me how to grow my professional and leadership experience outside of the workforce and how to do that in a community-centric way.

Young Ag Professionals program
With not growing up on a farm, I’d say I was a late bloomer to agriculture. I feel so fortunate that I found the agriculture industry. There are so many opportunities for growth.

Growing our Generation
Knowing that horticulture is under the agriculture umbrella and having Farm Bureau supporting horticulture like it does the rest of ag is very important.

If it wasn't for Farm Bureau, I personally, along with many others, would not have had the opportunity to meet with our representatives face to face in Washington.

Washington, D.C. Leadership Experience
So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
