Ross County Farm Bureau

The Ross County Farm Bureau is looking forward to a new year serving members and cultivating our community.

Advocacy. The Ross County Farm Bureau gathered input from members to develop local, state and federal policy affecting agriculture. Ross County delegates brought local policy forth at the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation annual meeting. In 2021, Ohio Farm Bureau will work to advance policy on issues important to you, including: rural broadband, timber management, water quality, and the local food supply chain. County leaders will meet with policy makers to bring to light these and other policy issues during virtual Ag Week at the Capital, Feb. 15-19.

Education. The Farm Bureau aims to ensure a prosperous future for your farm business and the agricultural industry in Ross County. In 2021 we invite you to attend the Farm Tax Talk Webinars. Farm employers will have an opportunity to fulfill The Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation safety requirements through Ohio Farm Bureau’s Cultivating Safe Farm Operations online training.

Youth. In 2021 the county Farm Bureau will provide scholarships to students pursuing higher education. Students can apply for additional scholarship opportunities from Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation, county Farm Bureaus, commodity organizations and other agriculture groups.

The Ross County Farm Bureau will continue to support local chapters of Drug Free Clubs of America M.A.D.E. program in 2021. Over 1,800 Ross County teens volunteered to participate in M.A.D.E. during the 19-20 school year. 2,164 drugs tests were administered; 99.6% of students passed tests, fulfilling their pledge to stay drug free!

The Ross County Farm Bureau Little Book Barn Library boosts ag literacy by providing local youth an opportunity to check out books about agriculture.

The county Farm Bureau is sponsoring Young Agricultural Professionals to attend the virtual Ohio Farm Bureau Winter Leadership Experience on Jan. 29-30, 2021. Members can apply for sponsorship by emailing [email protected].

Savings and Discounts. Farm Bureau members can take advantage of new member benefits in 2021, including Farm Bureau Bank and Great Lakes Ag Labor Service.

Local Events. Ross County looks forward to reuniting with members for fun, fellowship and community building when it is safe to gather in 2021. Local events will provide farm family entertainment, socializing with friends and neighbors, and celebrate our county’s rural heritage.

You can help the Ross County Farm Bureau cultivate our community in 2021 by renewing your Ohio Farm Bureau membership and inviting others to join Farm Bureau. To join or renew by phone call the county office (740) 474-6284, M-F, 8-4:30 p.m.

Labor has always been an issue, mainly because we are a seasonal operation. So that's a challenge finding somebody who only wants to work three months out of a year, sometimes up to six months.

I appreciate the benefit of having a strong voice in my corner. The extras that are included in membership are wonderful, but I'm a member because of the positive impact to my local and state agricultural communities.

Strong communities
I see the value and need to be engaged in the community I live in, to be a part of the decision-making process and to volunteer with organizations that help make our community better.

Leadership development
Farm Bureau involvement has taught me how to grow my professional and leadership experience outside of the workforce and how to do that in a community-centric way.

With not growing up on a farm, I’d say I was a late bloomer to agriculture. I feel so fortunate that I found the agriculture industry. There are so many opportunities for growth.

Growing our Generation
Knowing that horticulture is under the agriculture umbrella and having Farm Bureau supporting horticulture like it does the rest of ag is very important.

If it wasn't for Farm Bureau, I personally, along with many others, would not have had the opportunity to meet with our representatives face to face in Washington.

So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
