Brown County Farm Tour 2022

The Brown County Farm Bureau and Brown County OSU Extension were excited to offer a three-part summer series. Throughout the summer, there have been multiple seminars covering topics of Private Pesticide Category CORE recertification, Integrated Pest Management and monitoring insect update on the black cutworm, true armyworm, fall armyworm, western bean cutworm, european corn borer, and corn earworm. Additional field reports regarding insects, weeds, and diseases were also discussed throughout these sessions.

Aug. 20, the final piece of the seminar was a farm tour. More than 80 locals started at Fussnecker Farms (10068 Hamer Rd., Georgetown, OH 45121) for 30 minutes of Private Pesticide Category 1 (grain and cereal crops) recertification and an overview of Fussnecker Farm’s/OSU Extension’s soybean on-farm research plot.

Afterward, participants traveled a short distance to Dailey Farms (1193 Fite-Hauck Rd., Sardinia, OH 45171) for 30 minutes of Private Pesticide Category 1 (grain and cereal crops) recertification, a live drone demonstration on fungicide/cover crop application methods. We finished the evening with a meal provided by the Brown County Farm Bureau and an overview of Dailey Farm’s/OSU Extension’s on-farm soybean seeding rates research plot. Door prizes were provided by Carrington Farm Supply, Georgetown Farm Supply, Cherry Fork Farm Supply, Paul Hall & Associates Insurance, Brown County Farm Bureau, and Brown County OSU Extension.

Labor has always been an issue, mainly because we are a seasonal operation. So that's a challenge finding somebody who only wants to work three months out of a year, sometimes up to six months.

Farm Labor Resources
I appreciate the benefit of having a strong voice in my corner. The extras that are included in membership are wonderful, but I'm a member because of the positive impact to my local and state agricultural communities.

Strong communities
I see the value and need to be engaged in the community I live in, to be a part of the decision-making process and to volunteer with organizations that help make our community better.

Leadership development
Farm Bureau involvement has taught me how to grow my professional and leadership experience outside of the workforce and how to do that in a community-centric way.

Young Ag Professionals program
With not growing up on a farm, I’d say I was a late bloomer to agriculture. I feel so fortunate that I found the agriculture industry. There are so many opportunities for growth.

Growing our Generation
Knowing that horticulture is under the agriculture umbrella and having Farm Bureau supporting horticulture like it does the rest of ag is very important.

If it wasn't for Farm Bureau, I personally, along with many others, would not have had the opportunity to meet with our representatives face to face in Washington.

So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
