Athens-Meigs Landowner Meeting

Athens-Meigs County Farm Bureau hosted a Landowner meeting April 1 at the Meigs County Fairgrounds-Rutland Bottle Gas Building with 147 people in attendance.

Those invited were all Athens-Meigs Farm Bureau members as well as members in Meigs County, who received drought relief funds. Speakers from all the different ag organizations within the county discussed what they had to offer. Guests enjoyed dinner while listening to the various speakers and collecting their drought relief checks from the Meigs SWCD.

Jenny Ridenour with the Meigs SWCD kicked off the meeting by talking about what the Meigs SWCD office does and what they have to offer.

Michelle Stumbo with the Meigs OSU Extension was next. She talked about the various programs that the Extension office facilitates.

Kevin Lewis with USDA NRCS talked about the programs and opportunities that were available via NRCS.

Jordan Danford with USDA FSA reviewed all of the various programs that are facilitated via the county FSA offices and what programs that are coming up.

Ty Higgins, Senior Director of Communications and Media Relations with Ohio Farm Bureau, rounded out the evening with the importance of farmer mental health and the benefits of Ohio Farm Bureau membership!

It was a great evening and many of the landowners within the county gained valuable information for their various operations.

To grow a network and gain perspective and knowledge in the industry through personal and professional development has been invaluable. Every day I learn and grow.

Farm Bureau connections
The issue of property taxation remains as one of the biggest challenges our members face today. Ensuring agricultural property is valued for its agricultural potential and not development is critical to the continued success of Ohio agriculture.

Bringing the farm back to life
Because we are younger farmers just starting out, Farm Bureau has a lot of good opportunities and resources to help us grow in the future.

Farm Bureau involvement
Through the Select Partner program, we became educated in farm insurance and weren't just selling policies. It became more and more clear why farmers need an advocate like Ohio Farm Bureau.

Select Partner Program
So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
