Drink Local. Drink Tap. (DLDT) announces open registration for its third annual event, 4 Miles 4 Water — a symbolic 4-mile run, free festival with concert, and Guinness World Record Attempt.
With nearly a billion people around the world lacking access to safe drinking water, water access is a global issue. The name of the event grows from the fact that many people must walk 4 miles daily for potable water for drinking and cooking. The purpose of the event is to encourage people to ditch their reliance on bottled water, while raising awareness about water issues in Cleveland and around the world.
Participants can register to complete in a 1-mile walk or a 4-mile race; a unique course length symbolizing the average distance many people walk for access to potable water. In addition, DLDT needs help recapturing the Guinness World Record for number of people walking with a bottle of water on their head! In 2014, DLDT set the record with 508 participants, but has since been broken by Stillwater Junior High School with 1,145 participants. We need help to reclaim the Guinness World Record in 2016!
Over 1,500 people will participate in this locally inspired event with a global impact, including over 500 registered runners and walkers. The public is also invited to enjoy a free festival where they can play games and learn from interactive exhibitors about ‘all things water’. The festival day will also include a concert featuring Carlos Jones & the PLUS Band, a beer and wine garden, and food trucks featuring water-friendly vegan food choices.
4 Miles 4 Water is presented in partnership with Pure Water Technology and Cleveland MetroParks with support from such sponsors as Kinetico, Moen, Great Lakes Brewing Co., Barefoot Wine & Bubbly, Cleveland Scene and more. 100 percent of the proceeds of the event will be used for projects to provide safe water to those in need in east Africa, clean up Cleveland’s water resources, and educate local students on the importance of water locally and globally.
