Solar energy and its increasing use in agriculture will be discussed by energy development expert Eric Romich at the Northwest Ohio Ag-Business Breakfast Forum.
The program is designed to help producers understand whether on-farm solar is a good fit for their operations, including important factors to consider including tax credits, energy credits, and grant funding opportunities.
According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration 2013 Annual Energy Outlook Report, the national average cost for electricity in the industrial sector, which includes agricultural and irrigation, is projected to increase from 6.4 cents per kWh in 2013 to 12.8 cents per kWh in 2040. The Solar Energy Industries Association reports that Ohio is ranked 22nd in the nation in installed solar capacity – enough energy to power 13,000 homes. Interest in this alternative energy is on the rise too, as $25 million was invested in 2015 alone on solar installations in the state.
