Licking County residents, business and community leaders are invited to attend a special briefing focusing on issues concerning investment in renewable energy equipment. The program is sponsored by Licking County Farm Bureau. The briefing will be held at the Licking Valley High School on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023 at 6 p.m.
“On-site solar technology continues to improve, giving many farm, small business and residential energy consumers opportunities to control their energy costs,” said Kayla Jones, organization director for Licking County Farm Bureau. “It’s time for many of us to learn more about the technology, interconnection policies and service providers before making key decisions.”
The program, Doing Your Homework Before Investing in Renewable Energy Technology will be facilitated by Dale Arnold, director for energy, utility and local government policy with the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation. “Renewable technology owners need to address legal, environmental, safety, and interconnection responsibilities,” Arnold said. “Consumers need to know their responsibilities before they sign a contract with an energy service provider.”
Issues covered during the session include:
Energy Audits: Getting the home or business to use energy efficiently; purchasing the cost effective system available, and maximizing their energy savings potential.
Zoning: Sizing and siting an on-site system that follows setbacks, noise and other neighborhood environmental and safety considerations.
Engineering: Making sure system components meet industry standards and owner-friendly schematics can be shared with utility, community service and insurance providers.
Utility Interconnection: Working with the electric utility to ensure that the system can be safely connected to the local distribution system and adheres to all net metering requirements.
Finance and Legal: Understanding rebate, loan, grant and Renewable Energy Credit (REC) programs. Consumers need to know that some contract provisions could obligate them to third party generation delivery requirements.
Arnold represents farm and rural residential energy consumers on a variety of government working groups and public utility advisory boards concerning energy development. He has extensive experience working with consumers, local governments and community stakeholders to evaluate projects and create energy management strategies.

The Ohio Farm Bureau Federation is the state’s largest general farm organization, encompassing 86 county Farm Bureau organizations and over 70,000 member families statewide. Licking County Farm Bureau leaders are active on state and local action teams working on legislation, regulations and issues that impact agriculture and its relationship with rural, suburban and urban communities. Locally, over 1,200 member families belong to the Licking County Farm Bureau.
