Are you a 4-H or FFA youth interested in learning more about Ohio’s dairy industry and animal husbandry? What about nutrition, fitting, or showmanship? If you answered yes to any of those questions, you should come to the 2013 DairyPalooza, sponsored by the Ohio 4-H Dairy Program.

DairyPalooza was founded in 2010 as a way to involve more youth from all across the state. Most 4-H dairy events are held in Columbus, but many youth and adults from the far corners of the state are unable to make the drive from their home county to Columbus for an event lasting just a few hours.

Lisa Gress (Wayne), Julie Martig and Mike Janik (Mahoning) and Richard Owen (Trumbull) contacted Bonnie Ayars, the state 4-H dairy specialist, to begin planning an all-day event to draw more participation to state dairy programs.

After many months of planning, the first DairyPalooza was held in 2011, at Grammer Jersey Farm, with 50 youth and adults attending. The event was an overwhelming success, so in 2012 it was moved to the Wayne County Fairgrounds in Wooster, Ohio, where over 160 youth and adults participated in a day full of activities.

We have set the date for our 2013 DairyPalooza: May 4, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Wayne County Fairgrounds. This year, we are pleased to offer a state-sanctioned Quality Assurance program that will fulfill the requirements for all counties in Ohio!
