Fall is a time of cooler nights, colorful trees, back-to- school, and festivals! The annual Autumn Fest, cosponsored by the Montgomery Soil & Water Conservation District and Learning Tree Farm, is full of FREE festival fun! Parking, admission, and the activities are all free, thanks to partners and sponsors.
Events include hay rides, kids games, farm animals, displays on conservation and nature to check out, and fun crafts to make! At the Montgomery SWCD display, visitors have an opportunity to get up close and personal with soil, while making a ‘seed ball’ full of seeds to grow their own gorgeous native wildflowers.
The ‘Memory of Johnny Appleseed’, local naturalist Douglas Horvath, will be wondering the farm again this year. He loves to share apples, and stories of his life and travels! ‘Todd the Fox’,
will be playing their high energy sing-along upbeat style music. Border collies will show their skills at herding sheep. For those who love antique power, a 1912 20-horsepower Gaar Scott steam engine will be steaming corn-on- the-cob, and a threshing machine from the early 1900s will be threshing wheat from straw. The Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Ohio Dept.
of Natural Resources, Div. of Wildlife, and Montgomery County Farm Bureau will have information on their programs and fun activities, like coloring and playing in a corn kernel ‘sand box’, for the kids! A chain saw artist will be carving logs into mushrooms, bears, and who knows what else!
