Maple production can be as simple as a few buckets in the backyard or several hundred taps in the woodlot on your farm. Attention aspiring and beginning maple sugaring producers wishing to hone your skills – here is a program for you.
Attend this program to learn everything from tree identification and sugar bush management to producing the finished product, including tapping, collecting methods, canning and packaging.
We’ll meet in the lodge and move to the sugar house and sugar bush as the morning proceeds. Expect discussion in maple tree ID; tapping, collecting and storing sap at the hobby level; finishing sap on a hobby rig; and the basic economics of starting a new sugaring operation or expanding an existing operation.
Registration is required by Wednesday, Feb. 19, through the office of the co-presenter, the Geauga County OSU Extension, at 440-834-4656.
This free program is wheelchair/stroller accessible and suitable for anyone school age or older, although outside accessibility will depend on snow conditions.
