Ohio Farm Bureau Federation’s (OFBF) Young Agricultural Professionals program is accepting applications for the 2012 Outstanding Young Farmer and Excellence in Agriculture contests. Entry forms are due Aug. 17.

The Outstanding Young Farmer contest recognizes successful young farmers, singles or couples ages 18-35, for achievements in the business of farming and leadership in the agricultural community.

The Excellence in Agriculture contest recognizes successful young people, singles or couples ages 18-35, who are involved in agriculture, but whose primary occupations are not farming or owning an agricultural business. The award is based on involvement in agriculture and participation in Farm Bureau and other community organizations.

Four state finalists will be selected in each contest to compete at the state level. The finalists will participate in a 30-minute interview with judges. The winners will be announced at the Ohio Farm Bureau annual meeting Nov. 28-30 in Columbus.

The Excellence in Agriculture winner will receive a $1,000 gift card to Grainger, and the Outstanding Young Farmer winner will be awarded 250 hours of free use of a Kubota tractor. All winners receive an expense-paid trip to the American Farm Bureau Federation annual meeting in January, which will be held in Nashville, Tenn. to compete in the national contests. FOR
