About 155 Ohio Farm Bureau members came together March 26 for our annual Advisory Teams meeting, where they came up with a variety of program and policy ideas that will move forward at the state level.

Advisory teams are composed of Farm Bureau members from throughout Ohio who have applied to serve on the team in which they have the most interest. Their purpose is to make program and policy recommendations to Ohio Farm Bureauís staff and policy development committee.

The teams received an issues update on food insecurity from Ted McKinney of Elanco, and a Water Quality and Nutrient Management update from Karl Gebhardt, Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Matt Beal, Ohio Department of Agriculture.

These issues, relevant to all nine advisory team areas (agriculture education; dairy; energy, equine; feed grains; livestock; rural development; specialty crops and labor; and water quality), were discussed during individual team breakouts at the meeting.

In addition to meeting annually, Advisory Teams are often utilized through the year as issues arise that are pertinent to their members. We may ask them to contact a legislator, respond to an article or give us feedback on proposed legislation or programs that are relevant to their commodity or interest area.

Advisory Team members receive minutes from their meetings so they can discuss issues at county policy development meetings and make program recommendations to county boards.
