Hot Caramel Apples

Hot Caramel Apples

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon mixed with 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 4 large Granny Smith or Golden Delicious apples

Directions

Melt butter in large, heavy-bottomed skillet over medium-high heat. Add sugar. Stir rapidly until mixture is golden brown (1 to 2 minutes). Stir in cinnamon sugar. Remove pan from heat; add milk. Return to heat, stirring until hardened sugar dissolves and mixture looks like caramel — 2-3 minutes.

Add apples, which have been peeled, cored and cut into slices. Cover skillet, reduce heat and simmer until apples are just tender, about 5 minutes.

With slotted spoon, transfer apples to serving bowl. Over high heat, bring remaining caramel to a boil until thickened (1 to 2 minutes). Pour over apples.
