Supply and demand are to blame for the scramble some independent milk producers find themselves in the middle of to find a new marketing mechanism for their dairy product.
In the last several months, the Dairy Farmers of America’s Dairy Marketing Service cooperative has sent letters to independent producers in the Northeast and Mideast informing farmers they will no longer market the independent producers’ milk.
According to Farm and Dairy, the decision affects 92 farms in Ohio. Farmers will have the option of joining the Dairy Farmers of America or finding another market by Nov. 30. Organic milk producers are not affected.
