Meet the office staff! Allen, Paulding, Putnam and Van Wert counties have two people diligently helping Organization Director Jessica in the office, and today we would like to introduce them! Paige is currently a student at The University of Northwestern Ohio studying agribusiness management. She started in February and is our intern for the summer. Kristie is our County Office Administrator (COA) and started June 2017.

Kristie Fickel:
What does agriculture mean to you?
I appreciate farmers and everything they do. Especially I enjoy getting to buy from local producers and getting to support our local farmers.

What is your favorite part about being involved in Farm Bureau?
I love helping with the kickoffs, getting to see and meet all the members. I love working with the Farm Bureau because it is an organization that helps farmers and the community and lets me work in an awesome environment with an organization that supports something bigger.

What does agriculture mean to you?
Agriculture is such a huge part of my life. From being involved in FFA and 4-H all throughout high school to now studying ag in college I have really found my passion in agriculture. My family has a rich agriculture history and I have been surrounded by agriculture my whole life. My favorite quote is: ‘If you had breakfast, lunch, or dinner today, thank a farmer,” which is such an awesome quote because it really puts into perspective how important farmers are to our world.

What is your favorite part about being involved in the Farm Bureau?
I was so excited to start this internship with the Farm Bureau because it is my first big step towards my career. I have really enjoyed my time with the Farm Bureau so far because I have already learned so much and met so many amazing people through this organization. I love being a part of an organization that fights so hard for the agriculture industry. I can’t wait to see where the Farm Bureau takes me with my career in agriculture!

Labor has always been an issue, mainly because we are a seasonal operation. So that's a challenge finding somebody who only wants to work three months out of a year, sometimes up to six months.

I appreciate the benefit of having a strong voice in my corner. The extras that are included in membership are wonderful, but I'm a member because of the positive impact to my local and state agricultural communities.

Strong communities
I see the value and need to be engaged in the community I live in, to be a part of the decision-making process and to volunteer with organizations that help make our community better.

Leadership development
Farm Bureau involvement has taught me how to grow my professional and leadership experience outside of the workforce and how to do that in a community-centric way.

With not growing up on a farm, I’d say I was a late bloomer to agriculture. I feel so fortunate that I found the agriculture industry. There are so many opportunities for growth.

Growing our Generation
Knowing that horticulture is under the agriculture umbrella and having Farm Bureau supporting horticulture like it does the rest of ag is very important.

If it wasn't for Farm Bureau, I personally, along with many others, would not have had the opportunity to meet with our representatives face to face in Washington.

So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
