M.A.D.E. on the Farm empowers Ross County youth to stay drug-free

Aug. 1 the Ross County Farm Bureau invites the community to attend M.A.D.E. on the Farm, a farm dinner that raises funds to support local chapters of Drug Free Clubs of America’s M.A.D.E. (My Attitude Determines Everything).

Drug Free Clubs of America is a nationally recognized drug prevention and education program. M.A.D.E. chapters exist in every school district in Ross County. Student enrollment has more than doubled since the inaugural M.A.D.E. on the Farm dinner in 2018. When students joins M.A.D.E., they pledge to stay drug-free and agree to random drug testing throughout the year. Results are shared with their parents.

Students enjoy perks from local businesses and organizations that want to cheer students on in their drug-free journey, provide support and accountability. Drug Free Clubs is effective in preventing drug use and addiction because it gives youth a reason to say “No,” rewards them for saying “No” and reinforces their decision to make healthy choices.

Where the money goes

It costs students $67 to participate in M.A.D.E. Drug Free Clubs. The Ross County Farm Bureau M.A.D.E. on the Farm event raises funds to reduce or eliminate the cost to join Drug Free Clubs. The inaugural event, held in 2018, raised $10,000. A year later $12,000 was raised and the event earned a prestigious award from the American Farm Bureau Federation. In 2020 the Ross County Farm Bureau and members raised and donated a record $12,582.

“Ross County Farm Bureau’s long-term goal is to raise enough money so the program can be free to any student in Ross County wanting to participate,” said Kaitlyn Meeker, President, Ross County Farm Bureau.
