Teachers: More than 95 percent of all soybean meal (soy protein) is used to feed animals, primarily chickens and pigs. The Ohio Pork Council is offering a free virtual field trip to a pig farm.
Middle school/high school teachers: This is a great opportunity for students to learn about modern food production in the pork industry and to hear a farmer talk about their work, decisions that must be made, and challenges faced. Through this live chat, students can directly ask questions of the farmer.  Careers in the pork community and a variety of production topics that will be of interest to Agriscience classes like selection, nutrition, and swine management will be covered.
Choose from Dec. 14, 2017 or Jan. 5 or March 22, 2018.
Elementary teachers: Students will learn more about pigs, pork and farmers via this one-of-a-kind experience, especially for those who have never set foot on a farm. Each teacher who signs up will receive a copy of Gail Gibbons’ book Pigs; Welcome to our Farm, a storybook from the National Pork Board; and a link to a classroom reading guide!
Elementary dates are Dec. 15, 2017 or Feb. 9, 2018.
