Tour 1

Tour is limited to 30 attendees & will fill up fast.

BROWNHAVEN DAIRY FARM

Lou Brown and his family have been great stewards of the land by implementing a multitude of conservation practices such as a holding pond, dry stack, field buffers, tile stops, wetlands, cover crops and many more. Lou has been involved with resolving nutrient management issues in the Grand Lake Watershed since the issues began.

EDGE OF FIELD MONITORING SITE

Attendees will see and hear about a monitoring station that is providing scientific data on current agricultural practices and their impact on nutrient management. This site will provide a first-hand experience on research that is being conducted to improve water quality.

GRAND LAKE ST. MARYS BOAT TOUR

The Lake Improvement Association (LIA) and Lake Restoration Commission (LRC) are providing the group with a Grand Lake St. Marys boat tour. The tour will look at conservation practices, such as a treatment train, floating wetlands, dredge areas and littoral wetlands. Enjoy an afternoon on Grand Lake St. Marys while learning about the conservation practices being used to improve the water quality in the lake.

MOELLER BREW BARN

After a long day on tours and the boat, stop at a local brewery to learn about brewing beer and have the opportunity to purchase a frosty beverage. The Moeller Brew Barn opened in April 2015 to meet the local interest in craft brewing. Learn how Nick Moeller started this operation and the opportunities in micro brewing.

Tour 2

Must be 18 or older to attend.

VERSAILLES WINERY

Since 2002, The Winery at Versailles, located outside the beautiful village of Versailles, has offered quality wine to appreciative wine novices and connoisseurs alike. Tour the vineyard, pressing pad and tank room, and visit with the staff of the winery to learn the ins and outs of the vineyard and wine business.

BUCKEYE AG TESTING

Get a behind the scenes tour of a family owned and operated research and test plot business for corn, soybeans and wheat. Buckeye Ag Testing offers a variety of plot lengths and locations all representative of west central Ohio. Learn how fertility, insect, disease, and GMO-related studies are conducted.

MEADOW VIEW GROWERS

Meadow View Growers is a family business that began in the fall of 1984 when a cornfield was converted to three greenhouse structures. As the company grows over the years, the Robinson family still oversees the daily operations and puts best practices and core values at the heart of everything Meadow View does. Today, we’re one of the premiere horticultural businesses in Ohio backed by a collective staff experience totaling over 350 years.

Tour 3

BOWMAN AND LANDES TURKEYS

For more than three generations, Bowman and Landes Turkeys has maintained a reputation for value and flavor that sets it apart, and brings people back for more. Turkeys have been raised on the Bowman and Landes turkey farm since 1948. The original mission to produce the highest quality free range turkeys using the most natural home grown grains has not changed and continues to drive the organization.

INDIAN CREEK DISTILLERY

A tour of this historic farmstead is a glimpse into the past and will return visitors to an earlier time with its quiet beauty, ageless spirit and family history. Situated along meandering Indian Creek, all of the original buildings remain today, and all are full of items from the past. The distillery produced double copper distilled rye whiskey and operated day and night until the middle of the Civil War when a tax was placed on whiskey.

FULTON FARMS The farm market houses the retail side of Fulton Farms and is located in a more than 100 year old barn that is an excellent example of construction techniques from the 19th century. The market features produce grown on the farm such as asparagus, green beans, peas, onions, tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, watermelon and more. Visitors will notice two things: the old rafters and tractor seats, which date back to the 1930s and 1940s. Fulton Farms has a CSA (community supported agriculture) program, known as The Happy Box, that provides customers with home delivery of fresh, organic produce. Each week, customers receive a generous box of locally sourced, organic food.

Tour 4

YOUNG’S JERSEY DAIRY
