On Tuesday, Nov. 21, members of the Northwestern FFA Chapter competed in the Sub-District Parliamentary Procedure Contest and District Job Interview Contest held at Triway High School. Northwestern had a novice and a varsity team compete in the parliamentary procedure contest.
The novice team of Sara Cassady (Chair), Riley Stull (Chair), Craig Wellert, Desiree Smith, Haley Wilson, Valerie Imhoff, Cole Wharton, and Lizzy Howman placed first in the Sub-District and will advance to districts on Dec. 6, 2017 at Northwestern High School.
The varsity team consisted of Brock Tegtmeier (Chair), Austen Wood, Cody Tegtmeier, Kyle Piscione (Secretary), Cody Morrow and David Miley. Zach Smith and Jessie Bair were the team’s alternates. The team placed first overall and will also compete in the district contest Dec. 6 held at Northwestern High School.
Both contests are designed to test FFA members’ abilities in properly running a business meeting. Teams are scored on different abilities of parliamentary procedure, debates on main motions, the secretary’s minutes, and the chairperson’s ability to run the meeting, a written test, and the overall look of professionalism throughout the team.
The chapter also had four members compete in the District Job Interview Contest: Emily Finley, Cody Morrow, Jordan Melegari and Valerie Imhoff. This career development event is designed to give FFA members the opportunity to learn about the interviewing process, as well as simulating a mock interview for a job in the agricultural industry. Members are required to fill out a job application, complete a cover letter, participate in a interview, and complete a follow-up letter. Cody and Valerie took second, and Jordan placed fourth in their respective divisions. Emily placed first in her division and will advance to the state contest Dec. 2.
The guide includes a farm driver checklist, overview of state and federal regulations and exemptions, CDL qualifications and more.
