On Takeover Tuesdays, an Ohio Farm Bureau member takes over the Ohio Farm Bureau Instagram for the day to share a day in their life. Check in throughout the day or follow us on Instagram, @OhioFarmBureau, to meet new Ohio farmers and ag professionals for #TakeOverTuesday.

We are Harvest Bell Farm! The farm was started in 2014 with family members, Tiffany & Neil Mentzer, Lillian & Terry Mushrush (parents) and Heather Mushrush (sister), we purchased a former dairy farm. Harvest Bell Farm is a family farm focused on the health and wellness of the families around us. We believe in sustainable, ethical and natural practices. The farm is nestled in beautiful Newbury, Ohio where we have 20 acres to let our animals be pasture-raised. . .

Growing up on a horse farm instilled my love of animals while appreciating our land. I could not have been happier when my family decided my idea of starting a farm was a good one. Each family member plays an important part to the farm’s success; whether it be preparing the land, taking care of the animals, marketing, sales or managing farm equipment we all work together to make it happen. . .

As we grow each year, one of our goals is to host more events on the farm to showcase agriculture to the community. We host farm-to-table events, schools groups, other farming groups, work retreats, farm-fit events and more. Our annual farm-to-table event is hosted with @clefieldkitchen where your meal is cooked over an open fire and everything is locally sourced. . .

We are truly grateful to our community for welcoming us with open arms. We are also thankful to the animals of the farm; without them, we couldn’t do what we do and for the land that has been worked for many years. Farming takes hard work, passion, and perseverance. Thank you for following along with us today and we hope to meet you soon! . .

I see the value and need to be engaged in the community I live in, to be a part of the decision-making process and to volunteer with organizations that help make our community better.

Leadership development
With not growing up on a farm, I’d say I was a late bloomer to agriculture. I feel so fortunate that I found the agriculture industry. There are so many opportunities for growth.

Growing our Generation
Labor has always been an issue, mainly because we are a seasonal operation. So that's a challenge finding somebody who only wants to work three months out of a year, sometimes up to six months.

Farm Bureau involvement has taught me how to grow my professional and leadership experience outside of the workforce and how to do that in a community-centric way.

If it wasn't for Farm Bureau, I personally, along with many others, would not have had the opportunity to meet with our representatives face to face in Washington.

So many of the issues that OFBF and its members are advocating for are important to all Ohioans. I look at OFBF as an agricultural watchdog advocating for farmers and rural communities across Ohio.
