Hartford Fair Youth livestock purchased to feed Licking County residents

The Food Pantry Network of Licking County received a donation of processed pork from the Hartford Junior Fair youth livestock auction. The donation of more than 6,500 pounds of sausage comes from the annual 4-H and FFA junior fair exhibitors’ livestock auction, where Englefield Oil Company and Duchess Shops, Heartland Bank, Licking County Farm Bureau and Intel purchase livestock from the auction, and the Ohio Association of Foodbanks had the Ohio Penal Industries process the meat.

This year, the Food Pantry Network of Licking County continues to see an increased demand for food assistance due to inflation putting a strain on family budgets.

“We are so grateful to see so many organizations coming together to support the Food Pantry Network of Licking County,” said Chuck Moore, executive director of the Food Pantry Network of Licking County. “This is a great example of the uniqueness in Licking County to ensure that our work in the community is supported. This is an extraordinary collaboration as it supports the youth involved in 4-H and the FFA as well.”

In addition to the donation from Hartford Fair youth, Englefield Oil and Duchess Shops, Heartland Bank, Licking County Farm Bureau and Intel helping to cover additional costs related to transporting and processing the donation. We owe a special thanks also to USDA Chicago District, USDA Office of Food Safety, Ohio Department of Agriculture, Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, and the Hartford Fair Senior Fair Board and Swine Committee for making the donation possible.
